The New Zealand Odyssey Begins

Singapore, you were great. Sweaty, humid, busy and exotic and great. It was early evening when we left and landed in Auckland in the Kiwi dawn.

Auckland proved more manageable and quite wonderful. We explored most of the CBD (it took me a day to work that out .. I’ll leave you to ponder) by car, basically looking for parking only to discover that the hotel parked the car for you. Then a stroll.

around a charming city. Auckland proved to be cosmopolitan but quirky, bustling but laid back, energetic and modern but proud of its heritage and brewers. Oops, did I say brewers?

Dinner was an accident and revelation, a restaurant that we will struggle to better called Amano, where we sat by the open kitchen, drinking excellent Sauvignon Blanc from Rippon and watching the cooks prepare their amazing food.

In In bed by 10 pm ready for the hop-on, hop-off bus tour of Auckland.
