Hop-on, Stagger-off

So, the walk from The Grand Windsor Hotel to the Hop-on, Hop-off Auckland Tour took us down to the quays and along. It was a beautiful morning, hardly a cloud in the sky, and as we strolled past Quay 3 the nice young lady there pointed out to us that the ferry to Waiheke Island left in ten minutes. Her erstwhile colleague (from her badge we concluded that she was somewhat of a Hop-on, Hop-off expert) then told us that, while the Auckland bus experience did go to lots of worthy museums, the Waiheke bus tour covered nine wineries.

If you really concentrate you can just see Auckland in the far distance as viewed from Waiheke Island.

TheBus dropped us first at this gorgeous cove and we had to have a paddle. Then time to move on …

Though it was primarily a winery they did have a brewery as well .

The first tasting (at 11am) obviously had to be a tad conservative so we did the flight of beers and ciders before being introduced to this young man, Joe, from Dundee, and then the white wines. Well, it was still early!

We did have lunch. Somewhere. It was nice. Wasn’t it?

Had some ice cream, bought some tee shirts as you do.

And then the ferry back.

  1. They were all from the brewery Alibi. The pilsner was dull, their session ale was actually quite good for 3.8 abv but their IPA was up their with John’s Raj. Mind you it was 6.8 abv I think. The last one was a brut Cider with Granny Smiths. I’m not into cider but very nice – almost champagne like.
